WICHITA, Kan. Wichita Police gave a brief update Thursday on their investigation into a fight with a shot fired during a junior league football practice.

According to police, arrests and charges are pending in the case.

Lt. James Espinoza says, "We believe we will have arrests in the near future and also individuals charged in this incident. Arrests are expected of those involved in the fight and beating of the former football coach."

Espinoza says several people have also been banned from the league.

The incident happened at Linwood Park Monday evening. Police said several men began arguing with a coach, and it escalated when six men then began punching the coach.

The coach's wife grabbed a gun and fired a shot in the air. The coach grabbed another gun and threatened the men. Police today said no one has been arrested. The coach and his wife had concealed weapons permits for their guns.

Monday's practice involved teams from the second to eighth grades. Wichita Police Lieutenant Espinoza said while the dispute may have been over playing time, it appears there is more to this and it could involve several families.

Junior football games will be held as scheduled this weekend. Monday, police say a group of men beat up the coach of the 8th grade team, the Tigers. "Pandemonium," said Jennifer Decaul whose son plays on the team. "Because we were all concerned about where the kids were, to get the kids off the field, trying to get them safe. There was parents crying."

Wichita Police Lt. James Espinoza, a little league football coach himself, said it's a sad commentary. "It's upsetting to even hear a story like this," Espinoza said. Officers confiscated both guns, and no one was seriously hurt. The investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been made.
